Advanced Learning Mentor who is qualified as an HLTA / Higher Level Teaching Assistant or holds an equivalent qualification, with excellent communication, and inter-personal skills and a good standard of numeracy and literacy is required to join a new state of the art secondary school within a well-established Academy Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire. SALARY: £26,818 per annum FTE, Actual Annual Salary £19,583 per annum (based on 31.5 hours, term time only) Benefits (see below) LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire (SO30) JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent WORKING HOURS: 31.5 hours per week, 8:15am – 4:00pm Monday and Wednesday, and 8:15am –3:15pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, term time only (39 weeks) JOB OVERVIEW We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Advanced Learning Mentor who is qualified as an HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) or holds an equivalent qualification, with excellent communication and inter-personal skills, as well as having a good standard of numeracy and literacy. Working as an Advanced Learning Mentor, you will be highly motivated and committed, with excellent communication skills. You will be responsible for coordinating and delivering 1:1 and small group interventions, under the professional direction of a qualified teacher. This will include planning, preparing, assessing, recording, and reporting on development, progress, and attainment. You will complement and support the professional work of teachers by developing strategies to support students in the classroom and sharing these with classroom teachers whilst also supporting and line managing Learning Mentors to develop their support practice. As the Advanced Learning Mentor, you will have a desire to make a difference along with a good sense of humour. Applications are welcomed from individuals considering entering a career in teaching. DUTIES Your duties as an Advanced Learning Mentor will include: Work with teachers in identifying, advising, supporting and reviewing the implementation of teaching and classroom strategies Supporting a named Learning Mentor or small group of Learning Mentors, including supporting their line management and performance management Developing expertise within an area of SEND determined as a need within the department Work with a range of students in a range of subjects, in classroom settings and in small groups Monitoring and recording progress Assessing the needs of students, including those with SEND and unidentified learning needs Provide accurate feedback and reports on student progress and achievements Liaising with parents / carers Carry out interventions and review progress of students against learning programmes Support break / lunch time duties as required, could include supervision for small groups Support extra-curricular policies and afterschool on a rota basis Contributing to annual review meetings CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Qualified as an HLTA or holds an equivalent qualification Previous experience om a Higher Level Teaching Assistant / Senior Learning Mentor / Advanced Learning Mentor or similar role Empathy with students and sympathetic of their needs whilst pushing for the best possible outcomes and maintaining high expectations English and Maths GCSE at Grade C or above / Levels at Grade 4 or above Training in relevant learning strategies for students with additional learning needs, e.g. dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, numeracy needs, communication and language need would be beneficial Understanding of statutory framework relating to safeguarding Can use ICT effectively to support learning Well develop inter-personal skills and a sense of humour enabling effective relationships with a variety of people Highly organised and thrives in a collaborative, team environment Competent in working with a small group of students without the direct supervision of a teacher Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately The Successful candidate will receive Comprehensive induction including a dedicated mentor Continuous professional learning, development and improvement The opportunity to contribute to raising standards for all students BENEFITS Exceptional team environment where all staff are valued Excellent Continuing Professional Development with high quality CPD programs Many opportunities for career progression Extensive department resources and facilities A tax efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrifice Staff membership rates to the modern Leisure Centre Enrolment in one of the UK’s Largest public sector pension schemes The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
