We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Workshop Manager to join the Supply Chain and Logistics Function at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

What We Do

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of visitors each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap, and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow, 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, playing a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment, and changing customer expectations make this an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. We are a key part of how we plan to meet these changing expectations of customers and regulators.

What will the role involve?

As part of the expansion of our Supply Chain & Logistics, we are looking for a highly experienced workshop professional to support the development and delivery of a multi-skilled workshop from the ground up.

When we say from the ground up, we mean exactly that! The successful candidate will work with the Project Lead to source equipment, recruit a new multi-skilled team, design workshop layout and workflow processes through our corporate systems, develop and document safe working procedures for all activities, and develop training plans to align with activities.

This is a once-in-a-career opportunity, and this role is instrumental to delivering this key new activity within Yorkshire Water. Once delivered, this role will take over the day-to-day running of the multi-skilled function to ensure smooth operation and work with our continuous improvement team to develop and embed new processes within the wider structure. Targets will need to be developed for SLAs and KPIs for the performance of this key function.

Although the primary activity will focus on pumping equipment, the function will deliver a broad scope of services, and the ideal candidate will have a wide range of experience to draw upon. Activities will include mechanical & electrical repair and overhaul, machining, fabrication, and diesel overhaul and repair.

Management And Leadership Skills

* Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and provide instructions.
* Budgeting and Resource Management: Skilled in managing budgets, staffing costs, and purchasing equipment.
* Planning and Scheduling: Ability to plan and organize workshop activities, tasks, and projects.
* Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills: Ability to work effectively with others and build positive working relationships.
* Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges and make sound decisions.

The Engineering Workshop Manager will focus on three key areas, with some of the key responsibilities outlined below:

Engineering Services: Develop and lead the implementation of this new activity, promoting industry best practice, and ensuring the correct accreditations are achieved to comply with legislation (ISO, ATEX, UKAS).

Driving Productivity: Lead stakeholder management regarding construction productivity performance and drive improvements by understanding and utilizing industry best practices for measuring and reducing cycle times and waste.

Driving Cultural Change: Deliver programs of culture change focused on performance improvement, fostering collaboration within Yorkshire Water and partners, and encouraging innovation within the supply chain.

What skills are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a complex engineering environment and extensive experience in this field. You should be a confident communicator, capable of building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ideally, you will hold an Engineering Degree or equivalent and have a proven track record in this discipline. Demonstrable experience of what good looks like and how and why it works is essential.

Although we operate 24/7, we support flexible working patterns and job share options to help balance work and home life. We understand that juggling responsibilities can be challenging!

Do we sound like your cup of tea?

If you have experience in Engineering and want to help us deliver great service while protecting the environment, apply today to discover what a career with Yorkshire Water can offer you.

If successful, you will undergo pre-employment checks, including a Basic Disclosure Check, and possibly security vetting (Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check). All roles are subject to a medical questionnaire and further medicals as required.

We are committed to accessibility and offer adjustments for applicants with disabilities or specific needs. Please include this information in your application.

Kelda Group reserves the right to close this position early; we recommend submitting your application promptly.

No agencies please.
