Overview
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Senior Contracts Manager to join our Water | Highways business unit, supporting the delivery of the Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Framework. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the successful delivery of a portfolio of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) improvement schemes and Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) upgrades. We work with major water companies to create resilient facilities, reduce flood risks, and improve environmental outcomes. Currently, we are engaged in the Welsh Water & Wessex Water AMP8 frameworks. These long-term framework agreements are part of a national £88 billion investment, requiring a collaborative and agile approach to meet the industry's challenges.
Our Highways team delivers comprehensive services, from major national projects to local schemes, improving road journeys for millions daily. With expertise in tunnelling, bridges, and more, we provide end-to-end project support, including design, integration, and construction. Current projects include concrete road replacements for National Highways, smart motorway safety enhancements, and widening the A423 for Oxford City Council. Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality, timely, and technically robust operational projects, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective recovery from delays.
* Lead the Combined Sewer Overflow capital programme, including construction of storage tank systems / constructed wetland / reedbed schemes and WwTW upgrades.
* Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, environmental, quality, Morgan Sindall, and client procedures across all frameworks, projects, and contracts.
* Monitor progress against programme, managing delays, additional works, and ensuring efficient deployment of human resources, designers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Build and maintain strong customer relationships, acting as a business ambassador with clients, public bodies, and stakeholders.
* Deliver customer outputs and performance targets, ensuring alignment with KPIs and the Perfect Delivery ethos.
* Produce accurate monthly progress reports, business review reports, Balanced Score Card inputs, and customer feedback updates.
* Lead, develop, and motivate high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and "can-do" culture.
* Establish effective people-management processes, supporting staff development and promoting company values.
* Drive business performance through commercial awareness, cost control, commercial tension, and innovation.
* Challenge existing construction and design methodologies to ensure the safest and most cost-effective solutions.
* Develop and implement systems, procedures, and business improvement processes to embed best practice and encourage innovation.
* Manage the programme of works to maximise productivity, efficiency, and delivery quality.
* Conduct customer feedback surveys, team briefings, and attend monthly business review meetings.
* Support procurement activities to ensure cost-effective materials and methods are used.
* Promote continuous improvement of customer perception and support the delivery of Morgan Sindall "Protecting People" targets.
* Demonstrate the right behaviours and lead the team to maintain a culture aligned with Morgan Sindall values.
* Self-driven, self-motivated, and results-orientated with a positive, initiative-taking outlook.
* Strong leadership and people-management skills, able to motivate teams to achieve high compliance standards.
* Excellent organisational, planning, and time-management abilities, with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality or standards.
* Sound, in-depth knowledge of the construction industry, regulatory requirements, and the ability to ensure all standards and specifications are met.
* Skilled in setting, monitoring, and achieving project and operational targets in collaboration with senior management.
* Effective negotiator with strong diplomacy, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to present a sound business case to senior stakeholders.
Qualifications / Experience
* Proven experience in contract management within large infrastructure projects, preferably water and highways sectors.
* Strong leadership, people-management, and communication skills with the ability to lead diverse teams.
* Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, with experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
* Knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality standards relevant to construction and utilities projects.
* Commercial acumen with the ability to balance cost control and delivery targets.
