Our award-winning Learning Disability and Autism Team is currently seeking a part-time nurse to work on Mondays and Fridays at Southend Hospital as part of a job share.
You will create and establish effective communication pathways and networks between service users, carers, specialists, and primary and secondary health services to develop effective systems for the delivery of holistic packages of care from referral to discharge. You will negotiate service change, policy, and practice development to better address the health needs of people with learning disabilities and autistic individuals.
Work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the development of accessible patient care for wards and departments. Provide operational leadership, establishing and leading on the development of care for individuals with learning disabilities.
You will participate in supporting and supervising staff on issues related to caring for patients with learning disabilities/autism and help develop innovative ways to ensure staff feel supported when assisting this client group.
Maintain accurate documentation and records of all supervision and support provided.
Demonstrate a highly developed interpersonal approach with team members, service users, staff, families, and supporting agencies, especially in sensitive or contentious situations.

Main duties of the job
Your key role is to lead in improving effective and accessible quality care delivery within acute services, responding to the needs of individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism accessing our services.
You will work in partnership with the Learning Disability, Autism, and Dementia Service Lead and the wider MSE safeguarding services to support the development of acute hospital services and ensure good practice and healthcare provision for patients with learning disabilities and autism.
This is both an operational and clinical role, working with healthcare and multi-agency professionals, managing the interface between mainstream hospital services, specialist community services, private & voluntary services, and families to achieve the best outcomes for individuals.
Participate in developing training and assessing staff in line with national, regional, and local standards for caring for vulnerable individuals.
Although this position is site-specific within the MSE hospitals, you may be asked to support other sites based on service needs.
You will support individuals diagnosed with Autism without a learning disability.
