Duties of the Role The Senior Research Officer will support the Embedded and Intelligent Systems Laboratory’s work on embedded intelligent systems ( https://www.essex.ac.uk/departments/computer-science-and-electronic-engineering/research/robotics-and-embedded-systems/embedded-and-intelligent-systems-laboratory ) in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, as part of the recently awarded 5G4PHealth: Enhanced 5G-Powered Platform for Predictive Preventive Personalized and Participatory Healthcare Project funded by the Innovate UK as part of EU CELTIC-NEXT programme. The specific focus of the post is to aid in the production of the deliverables associated with the 5G4PHealth Project in conjunction with our partners Brunel University, Aparito. 5G4PHealth aims to develop and implement a 5G-powered platform enabling connected healthcare services across multiple specialities. The project intends to enhance the value creation of institutions and empower patients through AI-driven intelligent systems, by improving the patient-clinician partnership and patient health literacy and pivoting to value-based care. The project team will work together to address the Posture Evaluation gaps through the development of an 5G-based easy-to-use, objective, portable and low-cost and low-latency solution that quantifies gait analysis and enabling the prescription of effective remote patient-tailored treatments of rehabilitation. The post holder will contribute towards further evolving the laboratory facilities and carry out research focusing and leading to prestigious publications in scientific journals and conferences. A job share arrangement for this post can be considered. Skills and qualifications required We seek highly motivated, enthusiastic, and professional candidates who have excellent knowledge of computer vision, deep learning, and/or machine learning. Specifically, within this project, we will develop deep learning based computer vision algorithm for markerless motion as well as software development for mobile App. A PhD/MSc (or close to completion) in a relevant discipline or equivalent level of experience is required. A substantial record of publications in relevant international journals and conferences is essential together with strong written and verbal communication skills.
