A long‑established and reputable law firm based in Luton is seeking a capable, hands‑on Finance Manager to take ownership of the firm’s day‑to‑day accounting function. This role offers stability, autonomy, and the opportunity to be a core part of a trusted local practice.
Your new role
This is a highly varied and involved role ideally suited to someone who enjoys end‑to‑end accounting within an SME environment. You will be responsible for bookkeeping, management accounts, cash flow, ledgers and legal cashiering for a firm with multiplepletions per month. The firm utilises an external accountancy practice for end‑of‑year accounts and payroll, giving you the space to focus on core in‑house financial operations.
1. Full responsibility for day‑to‑day bookkeeping and financial administration.
2. Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Partners.
3. Cash flow forecasting, monitoring, and daily cash management.
4. Oversight of purchase ledger, sales ledger, and general ledger activity.
5. Acting as the firm’s Legal Cashier, ensuringpliance with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules (SAR).
6. Managing client and office accounts, reconciliations, and banking processes.
7. Supporting fee earners with financial queries andpletion‑related financial processes.
8. Liaising with the firm’s external accountants for payroll and year‑end accounts.
9. Ensuring accurate financial documentation, audit readiness, andpliance practices.
What you'll need to succeed
10. An experienced Finance Manager/Accountant with a strong grounding in bookkeeping and legal finance.
11. Experience within a law firm or awareness of legal cashiering / Solicitors’ Accounts Rules.
12. Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
13. Confident producing management accounts and cash flow reports.
