Job Details
* Role: General Adult Inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist
* Location: Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health (linked with Isle of Dogs Neighbourhood Mental Health Team)
* Service model: Inpatient wards shared with IoD NMHT and THEIS; wards have a capacity of 19 beds each (Roman Ward for females, Lea Ward for males)
* Position type: 10 PAs; 12-month fixed-term contract to cover paternity leave
* WTE: 1.0 WTE; plan to include 7.5 PAs direct clinical care (DCC) and 2.5 PAs supporting programmed activities (SPA)
* Clinical duties: provide inpatient consultant input, leadership, and act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients; maintain links with community team
Main Duties
* Provide consultant input to inpatient wards and IoD NMHT
* Assess and review patients; devise management plans; provide clinical leadership
* Lead on compliance with Mental Health Act and CQC requirements as appropriate
* Participate in assessment, care planning, and delivery of evidence-based treatments (including pharmacological management)
* Work within a recovery-focused approach with multidisciplinary collaboration
* Maintain effective communication with care coordinators and GPs; involve carers and other professionals in reviews when indicated
Person Specification
Essential qualifications
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council
* Eligible for GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of CCT)
* Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
* With or eligible for Approved Clinician status (MHA, 2007)
Desirable qualifications
* Higher Degree in relevant area
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level within last 3 years
* Knowledge of psychopharmacology
* Excellent knowledge and experience of Mental Health Act applications
* Understanding of social aspects relevant to psychiatry
Clinical Skills
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership
* Expertise in risk formulation and evidence-based interventions for psychosis, mood disorders, and comorbidities
* Commitment to clinical governance
Desirable Skills
* Senior leadership experience
