About the opportunity
Energy Programmes is one of our newest Business Units and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Energy Power station.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
Amentum are currently recruiting an Environmental Advisor who will be responsible for understanding the legislation and permits that govern environmental activity at HPC and ensuring that the contractors and consultants working on the construction site comply with these regulations. They will adopt the ethos; see it, sort it and report it. This involves identifying shortcomings and providing guidance to the contractors on how improvements can be achieved. Key responsibilities will be:
1. Undertaking site inspections of contractors’ work areas and relaying observations and/or reporting environmental issues where necessary
2. Provision of written and verbal advice on compliance with UK legislation, environmental permits, and environmental planning constraints for all activities on site
3. Authoring and reviewing of contractors’ environmental management plans to ensure they are compliant with environmental regulations and NNB standards
4. Support for the self-assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against applicable legislation, NNB processes and procedures and environmental best practice
5. Supporting and leading on investigations of environmental incidents, including the provision of reports and recommended actions to prevent re-occurrence of incidents
6. Interrogate and interpret environmental data to ensure relevant conditions are met – e.g. Development Consent Order (DCO) requirements
7. Supporting (environmental support) on Invitations to Tender & site contracts
8. Maintaining the procedures related to environment & waste management
9. Maintaining environmental site records according to the regulations; and recognise contractual issues and escalate to the Environmental Lead in a risk proportional manner
Here's What You'll Need:
Qualifications
10. Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or related discipline
11. Experience of operating within an environmental management system (EMS) conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2004), including the development of procedures to meet the requirements of the EMS
12. Experience of working within a dynamic construction environment with site-based experience
13. Experience of working with and developing good relationships with the regulators (e.g. Environment Agency, Natural England, Local Authorities, Marine Management Organisation)
