Specialist Occupational Therapist

The closing date is 12 February 2026

This is an exciting time to join adult mental health services in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as we work together to deliver the Welsh Government's new Mental Health Strategy, which places recovery and person‑centred care at the heart of service delivery.

As an Occupational Therapist in our Community Mental Health Teams, you will be part of a strong and supportive network of OTs working in community roles across adult mental health services. You will have opportunities to develop your own professional self‑management skills, delivering occupation‑focused interventions using the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to underpin your practice.

The post offers scope to develop leadership skills through supervising support staff and delegating tasks, while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

This is an exciting opportunity for OT practitioners with a passion for working in mental health services to develop their career pathway in the mental health workforce.

We have two vacancies:

* Rhondda & Taff Ely Area

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

* Use the occupational therapy process autonomously in various settings, including lone working in the community and in service users' homes across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
* Deliver assessment and intervention to a defined caseload using validated and evidence‑based models of care, assessment tools and outcome measures, such as the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO).
* Participate in formal meetings, providing specialist knowledge of occupational and mental health perspectives.
* Work effectively with MDT colleagues to ensure robust therapeutic environs for the service users, which support autonomy, maintain function and productivity throughout their episode of care.
* Formulate and share risk information in a timely and effectively manner, contributing to risk management and positive risk‑taking processes.
* Recommend and liaise with the MDT to provide appropriate support for the individual, liaising with other agencies to ensure delivery of a seamless service.
* Develop specialist skills and expertise within the field of community assessment, recovery‑focused interventions and related outcome measures.
* Demonstrate sound judgement regarding achievement of support worker competencies and subsequent delegation of work within a competency‑based framework.
* Contribute to service developments across OT services and mental health services; undertake audits and quality improvement projects.
