Position Summary
As a member of the Global Claims Team, the Senior Manager, Claims – EMEA manages claims on behalf of Marriott’s claims portfolio within the EMEA continent structure. This includes oversight of third-party claim handlers, claim reviewing practices, claims management, and liaison with internal Marriott stakeholders, including EMEA Insurance and GS&S teams, EMEA Finance Leadership, and Hotel Leadership, as well as insurance brokers and insurer contacts.
The Senior Manager, Claims – EMEA directly reports to the Senior Director, Global Claims, based in Bethesda, Maryland (USA), for technical day-to-day responsibilities and broader claims direction.
Core Work Activities
1. Oversee the Uninsured Loss Recovery (ULR) process and identify to hotels or management any necessary opportunities.
2. Coordinate claims management strategy with GS&S to reduce losses through loss analysis, training, lessons learned, and identification of changes in legislation, regulation, and/or case law.
3. Seek assistance and/or direction from the HQ Global Claims Team on high-risk claims involving legal or legitimacy practices, serious vehicle accidents, bodily injury, and/or death.
4. Evaluate and perform loss-trend analysis of insurer reports to identify newly reported cases in relevant areas and participate in monthly and bi-annual claims review meetings.
5. Coordinate bi-annual EMEA liability claims review meetings for cases resolved above USD 50,000.
6. Assist broker claims advocates in performing audits to validate claims data and participate in periodic audits of the company claims portfolio.
7. Provide guidance and support to hotel and company claims contacts on claims processes, loss mitigation, and best practices.
8. Assist with content for training initiatives, including cluster conferences, internal meetings, and online education forums.
9. Participate in cross-team calls with key partner disciplines, including Legal, Insurance, Risk Finance, and GS&S.
10. Attend meetings with the HQ Global Claims Team to discuss outstanding claims and claims management strategy as necessary.
11. Prepare and deliver presentations, seminars, and workshops with the HQ Global Claims Team and insurer partners covering lessons learned, key claim issues, emerging trends, reporting, claim investigation, evidence collection, and GS&S systems.
12. Manage loss analysis, loss triage, and follow-up activities related to claims investigation and litigation management.
13. Manage meetings with insurers requiring coordination under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
14. Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
Required
15. Minimum of 7 years of progressive claims adjusting or handling experience.
16. Advanced knowledge of international claims processes and procedures.
17. Demonstrated strong negotiation, investigation, and mediation skills to resolve conflicts constructively, effectively address complex issues, and guide stakeholders toward achieving defined objectives.
Preferred
18. Four-year degree from an accredited college or business school.
19. Professional insurance or claims-related certifications (such as ACII / CII qualifications, CPCU, AIC, ARM, or other comparable international certifications) are highly desirable.
20. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
