An opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Scientist Practitioner within Assistive Technology at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.

The post holder will perform a range of healthcare science clinical/technical/scientific activities, including the operation, calibration and routine maintenance of technical equipment used by clinicians within Assistive Technology (Wheelchair and Seating, Custom Design, Clinical Gait Analysis and Environmental Control services). This includes a 3D scanner, 3D printer, 3D motion capture system, force plates and an EMG system. The post holder will process the collected data and produce outputs including reports, CAD and technical drawings, prototypes and technical documentation.

The post holder will, with support and guidance from senior staff, be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Quality Management System including review of documentation and instigating audits (and contribute to its ongoing development), and to ensure that it meets the needs of the Assistive Technology services and the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies.

The post holder will be required to be flexible in their approach and adaptable to service requirements, and may be required to work in other services within the SMART Centre and attend/support satellite clinics.
