Electrical Systems Engineer– Cammell Laird Birkenhead If you have a sound knowledge and understanding of Marine Electrical / Electronic Systems this might be the role for you. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to provide Electrical Systems Engineering expertise supporting our design work within our Technical Office. Who are we? Part of APCL Group Cammell Laird is known across the globe. Our strategically important facility on the River Mersey operates across 5 core markets: defence refit and repair, commercial refit and repair, defence newbuild projects, commercial newbuild projects and energy. Across 90 acres we operate four dry docks, a large modular construction hall and extensive covered workshops. We’ve played a strategic role in UK shipbuilding for the past 200 years. So, what will you do? Carry out Technical Electrical support for our Commercial and Ministry of Defence Platforms (primarily RFA Cluster Ships) Produce and oversee Electrical schematic system detailed Installation Guidance and Drawing Information for both retrofits / upgrades, and new build vessels, identifying suitable equipment / materials and suppliers Prepare quotations for completion of specifications or designs and work Perform / oversee analysis studies and develop reports, drawings, and specifications to reflect design results Ensure that all work carried out is compliant with HSE and QA policies and requirements of the customer Engage with specialist sub-contractors to manage and oversee the quality of some work produced Manage an OEM supplier base and develop relationships with new suppliers Flag to Technical Managers where timescales for a task are at risk What are we looking for? Relevant Electrical / Electronic Engineering qualifications, ideally BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent Marine Engineering Experience and operational knowledge of shipborne systems Someone proactive, a self-starter able to engage with a variety of stakeholders Exceptional organisation and time management skills, flexible with a pragmatic approach An understanding of Classification Society Rules (if needed they can be taught on the job) Full UK Driving Licence as you will need to drive as part of the job AutoCAD would be great but if needed can be taught on the job Commercial acumen which you will further develop on the job Why join us?
