There is a permanent opportunity for a Patient Admissions - Healthcare Assistant to join our Theatre team based at the Royal South Hants hospital, Southampton.

The Patient Admissions - Healthcare Assistant plays a fundamental role in supporting the patient pathway and enhancing the patient’s clinical experience by performing pre-operative case management, coordination and administration tasks leading up to and including the day of surgery.
This is a permanent position, working a 4-day week
Shift patterns will be from Monday to Saturday
3 days from 07:00 to 17:00
1 day from 07:00 to 16:30
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you will carry out calls to patients 72 hours before their surgery to ensure they are ready, prepared, and to confirm due times for arrival to the hospital.
You will play a supportive role with the patient, ensuring fitness for surgery through effective questioning; any doubts must be raised to the Theatre Manager for review.
Focus on administration and coordination: prepare clinical files 72–48 hours in advance to prevent delays, admit patients, and provide pre-operation prep on the day of surgery.
Collate pathology and radiology reports, maintain notes to set standards, and check medical files for pre-assessments and related scans.
A main focus is to ensure the patient is prepared for surgery and that all arrangements are in place. You will communicate regularly with Theatre staff, Consultants, Nurses and other administration staff, and keep the patient informed.

You will be an effective communicator at all levels, with strong IT skills and the ability to pick up new systems quickly. You should have experience in administration with a customer-focused approach, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining clear communication. You will handle personal information sensitively and be familiar with GDPR regulations.
