Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Luton - £17m New Build
Salary: £35,000-£45,000 + package + travel to site
A growing main contractor is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 2+ years' experience to join its Eastern Region commercial team. The business delivers projects across commercial offices, hospitality, hotels, student accommodation and residential sectors, with group turnover approaching £200m and a strong pipeline of secured work.
Future schemes will include work across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and the wider region.
Project Overview - £17m New Build
You will join an established site team, including a Senior QS, on a live £17m new build hotel scheme. The project runs until January next year, giving you immediate exposure to a high‑value, complex new build project and the opportunity to take ownership of defined commercial packages.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting all commercial duties on a £17m new build project
* Assisting with procurement, tendering, cost control, valuations and variations
* Preparing and maintaining accurate commercial documentation and reports
* Managing multiple subcontract packages with increasing autonomy
* Liaising with subcontractors, issuing enquiries and supporting negotiation
* Working closely with the Senior QS, Project Manager and wider site team
* Contributing to forecasting, risk management and financial control
* Providing wider commercial support across the region as required
Candidate Requirements
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role
* HNC Building or above in a construction‑related discipline
* Strong understanding of commercial processes, measurement and reporting
* Confident managing multiple subcontract packages
* Based within reach of Luton / Bedfordshire / Milton Keynes / Buckinghamshire
* Backgrounds considered:
o Main contractor with JCT experience (ideal)
o Subcontractor backgrounds also considered: Groundworks & RC Frames, Drylining, M&E
