Overview
Multiskilled Maintenance Technician with mechanical bias sought by a recycling facility in Runcorn. This subsidiary of an international, £multibillion turnover plastics manufacturer focuses on growing the circular economy, with a view to innovation within PVC recycling as pivotal to their global sustainability strategy. This is a permanent role on weekly rotating shifts, 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm, known formally within the business as Mechanical Technician.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out mechanical tasks as part of a multifunctional team: bearing replacements, conveyor belts, motor gearbox replacements.
* Carrying out TPM tasks to ensure maximum Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
* Participating in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
* Working closely with engineers, production teams and external contractors to ensure timely resolution of issues.
* Following strict Health & Safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safe work practices.
* Installing, calibrating and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems including motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs and control panels.
* Troubleshooting: diagnosing and repairing electrical and instrumentation faults on a variety of systems.
* Performing routine testing, calibration and validation of instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance.
* Accurately maintaining records of all electrical and instrumentation work: maintenance logs, calibration reports, work orders and spare parts stores management.
* Ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation, including Electricity at Work Regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and company policies.
* Working on a shift pattern of 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm, rotating on a weekly basis.
Requirements
* Essential qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent; strong mechanical engineering bias with some electrical experience.
* Excellent communication skills, problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
* Ability to work independently and within a team; strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Proficiency with electrical drawings and schematics.
Desirable skills and experience
* Desirable: 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
* City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent.
* Demonstrable experience in an electrical and instrumentation role across multiple sectors (manufacturing, industrial, energy or related).
* Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation technologies.
* Instrumentation certification, COMPEX certification.
* Experience in hazardous environments (ATEX); familiarity with DCS; experience with PLCs, SCADA and automation.

* £41,671.61 including shift allowance and bonus; base salary £36,683.28 (£18.87 hourly rate) plus 10% shift allowance after probation and a monthly attendance/production bonus (£60 attendance, £50 production target).
