Are you a newly qualified pharmacist, or a trainee pharmacist hoping to qualify in 2026 and looking for a challenge and a great start to your career? Are you ambitious, confident and enthusiastic? Then join NUH as one of our shift working pharmacists! We have a well-established band 6 pharmacist training programme which is proven to develop your skills and knowledge and provide an excellent springboard to any avenue of pharmacy going forward. This programme will involve you working within a large but friendly and motivated shift working pharmacist team whilst being supported by experienced senior staff.
The pharmacy department is forward thinking and constantly implementing innovative ways of working to deliver the best possible care for patients. We continue to extend the ideal model of delivering medicines optimisation and pharmaceutical care where pharmacists are fully integrated into the medical teams, supported by a team of medicines management technicians and assistants.
Following a comprehensive induction, you will cover a wide range of medical and surgical specialities, medicines information and production. There will be potential for exposure to specialist areas which include respiratory, cardiology, paediatrics, renal, acute stroke, oncology, critical care and neurosciences. This will be done on a rotational basis allowing you to build up a wide experience base, excellent for building your career portfolio! During these rotations you will have the support of our team of specialist pharmacists to mentor you, in addition to our dedicated education and training team to guide you through. You will also be supported to do an educational programme to further develop you as a newly qualified pharmacist according to your prior learning and experience.
As part of the shift-working team, you will be responsible for the provision of the Out-Of-Hours Pharmacy Services at NUH. This involves working shifts in our ‘Trust Pharmacy’ as part of a 100-hour contract along with shifts providing clinical pharmacy services to NUH inpatients at Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital.
The Out-Of-Hours services are all based within ‘Trust Pharmacy’ working alongside a team of pharmacy support staff. You will have access to back-up support and advice which will be provided remotely by senior pharmacists.
These posts offer you exceptional career building opportunities in one of the UK’s largest and busiest acute teaching hospital Trusts.
