Overview
This senior nursing leadership role focuses on ensuring high‑quality care for patients visiting the outpatients and urgent care departments of the Royal Eye Informary.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical nurse management, leadership and expertise across all aspects of outpatients and urgent care service delivery.
* Lead and develop nursing teams, ensuring high standards, continuous improvement and adherence to clinical governance frameworks.
* Delegate responsibility for the management of pay and non‑pay budget within the scope of responsibility.
* Recruit, retain and develop nursing staff, including appointments from Health Care Assistant up to Band 6 Nurses.
* Plan and supervise staff rostering, including off‑duty rotas, to optimise resource utilisation.
* Develop and maintain specialist protocols, policies and clinical pathways for ophthalmology care.
* Lead the investigation, follow‑up and corrective action of clinical incidents and complaints.
* Collaborate with the Matron, consultants and service line managers to manage service demand, develop new service lines and achieve speciality targets.
* Act as a role model for clinical excellence and maintain personal NMC registration.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Nurse with a valid UK NMC registration.
* Substantial experience in ophthalmology or an acute clinical nursing environment.
* Demonstrated experience in charge nurse or senior sister roles, with proven leadership and team development skills.
* Experience in budget management and financial leadership within a clinical setting.
* Knowledge of infection control, risk management and clinical audit processes.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage multidisciplinary teams and patients’ families.
