The Charity Commission is seeking a Commercial Practitioner to help lead and manage strategic commercial activity across a dynamic and purpose-driven organisation. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, suppliers, and government partners to deliver value-for-money outcomes and embed commercial excellence. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys influencing at senior levels, and is passionate about driving innovation and collaboration in procurement.
The Commercial Practitioner plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality commercial services across the Charity Commission, supporting approximately £7 million in non-pay annual spend. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the postholder will lead procurement and contract management activities, ensuring compliance with public sector regulations and alignment with strategic objectives.
This role sits within the Finance, Estates and Commercial Directorate and is central to enabling the Commission’s goals. The practitioner will act as a key advisor to senior stakeholders, including the CEO and Directors, providing expert guidance on commercial risks, supplier performance, and value-for-money decisions.
The postholder will represent the Commission in cross-government forums, manage strategic supplier relationships, and embed commercial awareness across the organisation. They will lead end-to-end procurement processes, negotiate contract terms, and ensure robust contract management practices are in place.
The role demands a proactive, solutions-focused individual with strong influencing skills, analytical capability, and a commitment to continuous improvement. It offers the opportunity to shape commercial strategy and drive innovation.
The successful candidate will be:
* Leading End-to-End Procurement Processes: Managing the full lifecycle of procurement—from tendering and evaluation to contract award, handover, and exit.
* Managing Strategic Supplier Relationships: Acting as the responsible owner for supplier performance, collaboration, and alignment with organisational goals.
* Providing Expert Commercial Advice: Advising senior stakeholders (including CEO and Directors) on commercial risks, compliance, and strategic decisions.
* Driving Commercial Capability and Awareness: Embedding commercial behaviours across the organisation and building a culture of continuous learning.
