Contract: Permanent, Full time, Term time (33 weeks per year)
Salary: £18,826.14 inclusive of holiday pay (£25,559.16 FTE)
Role outline and purpose
The DT Technician will assist the Design & Technology Department in their delivery of the curriculum throughout the school up to GCSE and A Level. The Technician will be responsible for providing the department with technical support to deliver the curriculum to students whilst championing health and safety awareness. Other responsibilities include monitoring stock control, ordering, receiving and checking deliveries, specifically across the two workshops and CAD/CAM facilities. At present there is one technician within the department, responsible for supporting the textiles curriculum. The DT Technician will work alongside the current textiles technician to help deliver Design & Technology and support 4 subject teachers on a daily basis, in line with lesson plans and will report to the Head of Design & Technology.
Role responsibilities
* Preparation of materials, mostly Resistant Materials related materials (timbers, metals and polymers)
* Ensuring tools and machines are ready for lessons, including maintenance to machines and equipment
* Setting up, monitoring and maintaining CAD/CAM facilities including, 3D printers and laser cutters
* To support with putting up and taking down of displays and exhibitions around campus
* Performing a regular stock check and ordering materials as required in conjunction with the Head of Technology and keeping a record of these orders
* Prepare project kits for class projects
* Championing health & safety, performing risk assessments and supporting housekeeping alongside teachers.
* In conjunction with the Head of Technology, ensure safe storage legislation and Health and Safety advice is followed
* Performing other reasonable duties required by the Head of Technology, which might be needed from time to time to ensure the smooth, efficient running of the department
* Support students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups during lessons, at break time and during extra-curricular activities
