The BT Workplace team provides a full range of building maintenance services to 8,000 buildings in the UK, including commercial offices, telephone exchanges, call centres and retail shops.
The role
Air Conditioning Technician
The purpose of the AC Engineer role is to support the Technical Supervisor and/or the Area Operations Manager (AOM) by delivering reactive and planned preventative maintenance services to building engineering systems and services in accordance with established procedures and safe working practices.
Key responsibilities
* Maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems and undertake preventive maintenance (PPM) routines as assigned.
* Ensure all repairs and installations comply with applicable regulations.
* Ensure all test equipment is calibrated, maintained, and meets current regulations.
* Complete risk assessments for reactive and planned maintenance tasks to ensure safe working conditions.
* Diagnose faults on equipment and repair as necessary using manufacturer manuals and drawings.
* Ensure Site Log Books are completed and updated in accordance with procedures.
* Produce reports as required for the Technical Supervisor.
* Maintain stock levels of spares as required.
* Participate in an Emergency Call‑Out service according to the Out of Hours rota.
* Other duties consistent with BT Facilities Services delivery as directed by line management.
* Act as part of a team to deliver activities that support operational objectives.
* Plan tasks effectively and manage short‑term priorities.
* Interact with stakeholders regarding specific work efforts and deliverables.
* Support the delivery of Health and Safety policy and standards.
* Oversee activities of others to meet deadlines and quality standards, taking into account impact outside area of responsibility.
* Identify ways to reduce cost and work within a given budget.
Qualifications
* Completed apprenticeship or equivalent formal training in air‑conditioning and refrigeration installation and maintenance, with sufficient practical experience and theoretical knowledge.
* Hold a City & Guilds 2079 Level 2 Award in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category 1 or equivalent.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
* Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Commercial & Industrial Air Conditioning Systems) or equivalent.
* PASMA certification.
* IPAF certification.
* Manual Handling certification.
* Asbestos Awareness certification.
* Confined space working experience.
* Roof working experience.
