Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for the next step in your career? Do you want to take ownership of complex engineering projects while developing the technical and leadership skills needed to progress into a future Chief Engineer position?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well‑established manufacturer of bespoke special purpose machinery, where you'll play a key role in the design, development and delivery of highly engineered solutions while working closely with senior leadership on the future direction of the engineering function.
The Role
* Lead the design and development of bespoke special purpose machinery from concept through to manufacture and installation.
* Manage multiple engineering projects, taking ownership of technical decisions and project delivery.
* Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs, engineering calculations and validation activities.
* Conduct stress calculations, design reviews and testing to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
* Work directly with customers to understand technical challenges and develop innovative engineering solutions.
* Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, technical sales and leadership teams to drive continuous improvement and product development.
* Support the future growth of the engineering department, with opportunities to develop leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
Experience
* Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in heavy engineering, special purpose machinery or other safety‑critical applications.
* Proven experience managing projects from concept through to production.
* Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, stress calculations and engineering analysis.
* Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD design.
* Commercially aware with strong communication and customer‑facing skills.
* Ambitious and motivated to progress into a senior technical leadership or Chief Engineer role.
