Job overview

A Band 4 Nurse Associate in a Urology Investigation Unit supports the delivery of safe, effective patient care during diagnostic and minor interventional procedures related to the urinary tract. You work as part of a multidisciplinary team, bridging the gap between healthcare assistants and registered nurses.

Main duties of the job

1. Patient Care & Support

1. Prepare patients and clinics for urological investigations (e.g. cystoscopy, urodynamics, TP Biopsies)
2. Provide reassurance and explain procedures within scope of practice
3. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures
4. Recognise and report changes in patient condition

2. Clinical Duties

5. Assist with procedures such as: Flexible cystoscopy Trans perineal Biopsy. Urodynamic studies Bladder instillations
6. Perform basic clinical tasks: Observations (BP, pulse, oxygen sats) Urinalysis and sample collection Catheter care and simple catheterisation (if trained/competent)

3. Infection Prevention & Safety

7. Maintain aseptic technique during procedures
8. Ensure equipment is cleaned, prepared, and stored correctly
9. Follow infection control policies strictly (very important in urology)

4. Documentation & Communication

10. Accurately record patient care and procedure details
11. Communicate effectively with nurses, doctors, and patients
12. Escalate concerns appropriately

5. Teamwork

13. Work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
14. Support junior staff and healthcare assistants

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

25. Registered Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
26. GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
27. •Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register

Experience

Essential criteria

28. Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Desirable criteria

29. Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities
30. Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to nursing associate students, other learners and health care support workers as required within the clinical setting.
