The salary for this role is £31,100. Onsite working is expected for 5days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

AsActive Gas Handling Operator, you will play a pivotal role inassisting the Plant Operations Duty Officer in delivering routine tasks, responding to associated system alarms by taking appropriate action to mitigate plant problems from worsening.
Key Accountabilities:
* Ensure that your behaviour promotes the safety, health and welfare of yourself and your colleagues.
* Actively promote UKAEA’s values, championing a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* Assist the plant supervisor and the AGHS Control Room Duty Officer with daily routine tasks and duties, keeping accurate records in the Control Room Logbook.
* Monitor and respond to alarms, such as plant, RPI, fire, flammable gas, and oxygen.
* Undertake pre and post operational tasks and daily checks as detailed in Operational Instructions such as ensuring safe access conditions for access to operational areas, radiological and atmosphere surveys, diagnostic shutdown.
* Monitor and maintain stable plant conditions - reporting any irregularities to the Plant Supervisor.
* Administer the DOSAC system to authorise entry to ALNOR controlled areas.
* Liaise with the JET J2 Control Room Shift Technician regarding planned TORUS interventions.
* Undertake tasks to ensure the safe working environment in compliance with the Health and Safety at work Act; share safe working practices with visitors during inspections and tours of the facility.
* Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.
Qualifications
Essential:
* HNC, BTEC ONC, City & Guilds level 2/3, NVQ 2/3 or equivalent qualification in a mechanical, scientific or engineering discipline would be preferred.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrably proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Experience of working in a controlled environment.
Desirable:
* A good understanding of safety procedures and why they are required.
* Able to work on own initiative or with others on tasks with minimum supervision.
* Possess effective leadership qualities.
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Mechanical, Science or Engineering degree or higher education.
