Legal Executive Hybrid – Warrington, WA3 7PB Full Time, Permanent Band 5 / £45,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience) Serco’s Electronic Monitoring Services (EMS) contract is one of the UK’s most significant public safety programmes - supporting the Ministry of Justice with the delivery of national tagging and monitoring services. Our purpose is clear: enhance public safety, reduce reoffending, and harness advanced data to deliver better outcomes for communities. We are now seeking an intelligent, driven and proactive Legal Executive to join our high-performing EMS team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual (CILEX or Solicitor) who is eager to develop, contribute, and grow within a complex, high-profile operational environment. As a trusted member of the EMS Legal and Risk function, you will support the effective management of legal and operational risk across the contract. While you will not be customer-facing initially, you will work closely with internal teams to build credibility, foster relationships, and become a well-known and valued presence across the contract. Your work will focus on monitoring compliance with key legal frameworks - including common law duties, human rights and data protection - while supporting a mixed caseload and helping drive proactive operational solutions. As you develop, your responsibilities will grow, and you will play an increasingly central role in case management, process improvement and legal support for the broader EMS business. As part of this you’ll: Manage and triage matters through the team’s case management systems. Produce and deliver training and reference materials for internal stakeholders. Undertake legal research and present findings accurately and promptly. Provide legal support to senior lawyers, Heads of Department and subject matter experts. Maintain and update precedent banks, templates and reference materials. Build strong working relationships across the EMS contract and wider Legal & Commercial teams. Collaborate with insurance teams, the Customer and internal stakeholders to maintain accurate records. Organise case files, attend court inquests or tribunals, prepare litigation bundles and file documents where required. Draft reports, complete official documentation and assist with witness statements or expert meetings. Prepare management information, analyse data, identify trends and escalate concerns where needed. Work in accordance with risk, compliance and GDPR requirements. What you’ll need to do the role: We’re not looking for extensive specialist experience - we’re looking for the right person. Someone intelligent, adaptable, proactive and driven. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves solving problems, and integrates well into a team. CILEX (preferably with Litigation Rights) or Solicitor qualification. Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Desire to learn litigation and internal legal processes. Commitment to continuous improvement and challenging the status quo. Strong self-development mindset and willingness to grow within the role. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport at all levels. Clear, concise and persuasive communication skills - both written and verbal. Ability to manage a diverse caseload and adapt to changing priorities. Inclusive, approachable and collaborative nature. Ability to achieve BPSS Clearance.
