Overview
Successful candidates will be offered a full-time education programme for the role in partnership with the University of Sheffield. This post will be funded at NHS Band 4 scale with guaranteed employment on completion of training and having attained EMHP qualification, with a starting salary projected to be based on the NHS Band 5 scale. The training programme starts in February 2026, lasts 12 months, and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning within educational settings across Doncaster. Delivery will be provided through a combination of taught days at the university, independent self-guided study days, and experience gained in educational settings and mental health services. The candidate will be delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in an education setting.
Responsibilities
* Help children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist service.
* Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
* Work with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
* Evidence development of skills with associated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.
Programme details and role
The Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role provides the opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in and around their educational settings. Staff are expected to be committed to working long term in Doncaster to join the MHST service. Successful candidates will be employed by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH). Doncaster MHST started in January 2020 and has been involved in waves 8 and 12; these posts sit within wave 14, commencing January 2026.
Candidates will be in training in the first year and will be required to work full time, 9 am – 5 pm. During the training year, staff will spend three days a week within the MHST service and two days per week at the University of Sheffield.
