LOCUM APPOINTMENT FOR TRAINING IN GENERAL SURGERY

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, Full Time (40 hours per week) posts (3) based in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Working with the Clinical Directors, Clinical service leads and the Directorate Management team, this post will give the successful applicant the opportunity to enhance their experience in general surgery with emphasis on upper GI surgery and abdominal wall hernia surgery including general surgical emergencies. The post will offer the successful applicant the opportunity to develop and evidence their clinical and professional competence in a purposeful and supervised manner as an assist to overall professional development.
The post is aimed at ST4 level or above i.e. those doctors having completed 3 years of surgical training after the UK Foundation programme (or equivalent) and having been assessed as "acute take safe" under supervision, looking for some experience in general surgery particularly in Upper GI and abdominal wall hernia surgery with emergency general surgery, in which they may have a longer term interest, or to provide a professional development adjunct to any future clinical activity. This post does not have educational approval. It is an NHS Lothian funded post to make the general surgical ST rota compliant.
This post has deanery approval for training and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.
There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year. The extension may be at any of the hospitals on the rotation.
