Keeping our stations safe, compliant and continuously improving
We’re looking for a collaborative and proactive Stations Continuous Improvement & Compliance Manager to help drive operational excellence across our stations and travel centres.
In this key operational role, you’ll work closely with Station Management Teams, Safety Business Partners, and Competency Assurance colleagues to monitor compliance, identify risks and trends, and implement practical solutions that improve safety, customer experience, and operational performance.
You’ll play an important role in ensuring our stations operate safely, efficiently, and in line with industry standards while supporting continuous improvement across the network.
What you’ll be doing
As Stations Governance & Assurance Manager, you will:
1. Monitor and report on station compliance against industry standards, EMR policies, procedures, and risk assessments
2. Support Station Management Teams to create and deliver action plans that address operational and safety concerns
3. Work collaboratively with the Competency Assurance Team to identify trends, share best practice, and improve performance in safety critical roles
4. Support the development and ongoing competence of Station Mentors through Continuous Professional Development sessions
5. Monitor Travel Centre compliance with Schedule 17 commitments and support audit activity and improvement plans
6. Report on Automatic Ticket Gate (ATG) compliance and maintain associated competency standards
7. Use operational performance data and trend analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement across stations
8. Support investigations into accidents, incidents, and close calls, ensuring actions are implemented effectively and lessons learned are shared
9. Develop engaging safety and compliance communications, including Safety Briefs and Team Engagement Days
10. Maintain operational competence in safety critical station duties and undertake assessments when required
11. Fulfil Station Duty Manager shifts and participate in an on-call roster, including weekends
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with strong operational railway knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for safety and continuous improvement.
You’ll ideally have:
12. Degree-level education or equivalent operational experience
13. Strong knowledge of rail industry rules and operational station management
14. Train Dispatcher competency
15. Qualified Assessor status for managing Train Dispatcher competence
16. IOSH Managing Safely qualification and experience investigating accidents, incidents, and close calls
17. Experience producing operational reports using Excel and Power BI
18. A passion for delivering excellent customer experience and operational performance
19. Experience working with KPIs and business performance measures
20. Strong leadership, collaboration, influencing, and stakeholder management skills
21. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
Safety Critical Role
This position is a safety critical role, Successful candidates will be required to complete a safety critical medical assessment, including drugs and alcohol screening, as part of the recruitment process.
