Thisis a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician. This post isavailable immediately, for a 6-month period.

Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the General Paediatric team.

Thepost will be based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital at the Leeds GeneralInfirmary.

Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation in Paediatrics in the RoyalCollege of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent, and should be on theSpecialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register fortrainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have referenceswhich have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and ClinicalDirector.

Applicantsshould have established skills in General Paediatrics. Excellent communication and team workingskills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

2.1 To deliver care to patients with commonpaediatric illnesses at the Leeds Childrens Hospital

Supervision of patients

Care of in-patients

Contribute to SpecialistMulti-disciplinary team meetings

2.2 To link with Consultant colleagues inother relevant site specialist teams within the Childrens Hospital.

2.3 To work with colleagues in generalpaediatrics to deliver acute ward services and providing support for juniordoctors.

2.4 To contribute to research, teaching andnew developments within the Childrens Hospital. The post holder will beencouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical researchprograms on going in the department.

2.5 To contribute towards the Consultant ledtriage of acute GP referrals to the CATunit, providing e-mail advice to GPs, triage of all elective referralsto the service and participating in the provision of community GP hubs.

2.6 Workwith the safeguarding/child protection team and partners in other agencies toconduct safeguarding assessments.

LOCUMCONSULTANT IN GENERAL PAEDIATRICS (with interest in secondary asthma)

Thispost is a locum post for a period of 6 months

1. BACKGROUND

Thisis a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician.

Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the general paediatrics team.

Weare looking for a new enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our existinggroup of consultants who are all highly motivated and committed to developingexcellent services for patients. The expectations of all members of themulti-disciplinary team are high. The team consists of consultants with variousspecialist interests, including immunology and infectious diseases,respiratory, nephrology, eating disorders and secondary epilepsy. The role willinclude acute work in the Childrens Assessment and Treatment unit (CAT) and onthe Childrens inpatient wards, as well as outpatient work in the form ofgeneral paediatric clinics.

Therole has a vast mixture of secondary and tertiary paediatrics supporting anextensive array of other tertiary specialists across Leeds Childrens Hospital.

LeedsChildrens Hospital caters to every paediatric sub-specialty under one roof. Italso has close links with the adult hospital, within the same building, whichenables smooth transition of care from paediatrics to adults.

Theteam is developing exciting new pathways to make the department more efficient,improve patient experience as well as providing an excellent experience tojunior doctors in training. Over the years there has been a significantoverhaul of the workforce and this has now resulted in the appointments ofqualified advanced nurse practitioners, trainee ANPs, as well as specialtydoctors, who complement the junior doctor workforce.

3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST

3.1 General Training and Qualifications

The appointee must holdaccreditation in Paediatrics in the Royal College of Paediatrics and ChildHeath or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training (orequivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK.

Applicantsmust be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted tothe Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within theUK, or have references which have beenauthorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicantsmust provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevantRoyal College at the time of application, in order for their application to beprogressed further.

3.2 Experience

Theappointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience andcompetence in all aspects of general paediatrics.

3.4 Clinical Audit

Theappointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the leadin the following:

Mortality and morbidity meetings;

Development and application of agreedclinical guidelines.

Thisis to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as asupporting programmed activity. It wouldbe expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at therelevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would berecorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy).

Inthe discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected tomaintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuingmedical education.

4. TEACHING

TheTrust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with theUniversity of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and allConsultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriatecontribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.

The post-holder will be required toparticipate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine,University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis.

Thepost-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliverappropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract withthe NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.

Theappointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teachingof postgraduates.

5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

The job plan review will take placeannually, normally with the Lead Clinician for General Paediatrics. The annualjob plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interimreview of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountabilityarrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly withinthe area.

5.1 Proposed Job Plan

Thepost consists of 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAsof supporting professional activity (SPA).

Qualifications

* MB BS (or equivalent)
* Membership Examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent qualification.
* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty


Clinical Experience and Career Progression

* Should have completed a recognised training programme in General paediatrics


Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
* Eligibility to work in the UK


Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in General Paediatrics
