3D CAD / BIM Technician – Water
Location: Apsley / Cookstown / Ilkeston / Glasgow
Role Purpose
We are looking for a skilled 3D CAD / BIM Technician to join a growing design team delivering water and wastewater treatment projects. This role combines hands-on technical modelling with coordination and mentoring responsibilities.
You will be responsible for producing high-quality 3D models and technical drawings, supporting multidisciplinary collaboration, and helping to drive consistency and efficiency in BIM processes. The position also offers the opportunity to support and develop junior technicians while contributing to continuous improvement in digital design delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams to ensure accurate and coordinated design integration.
Produce, review, and maintain high-quality models and drawings in line with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Carry out clash detection and coordinate design resolutions using BIM tools.
Support and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance on software, standards, and best practices.
Participate in design reviews, contributing to model accuracy, coordination, and efficiency improvements.
Work closely with design leads and project managers to ensure timely delivery of design outputs aligned with project objectives.
Assist in establishing and maintaining BIM workflows, templates, and standards across projects.
Produce visualisations, reports, and technical documentation to support design communication with stakeholders.
Stay up to date with advancements in CAD/BIM tools, technologies, and industry best practice.

Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a CAD/BIM Technician, ideally within water or wastewater projects
Strong proficiency in BIM tools (e.g. Revit, Navisworks) and CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD)
Experience in clash detection, model coordination, and multidisciplinary design integration
Good understanding of technical documentation, drawings, and model quality control
Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in BIM and CAD within infrastructure or utilities sectors
Essential Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, or a related discipline
Strong understanding of BIM processes, workflows, and coordination practices
Experience managing design documentation and ensuring model accuracy and compliance
Desirable Qualifications
Professional certification in CAD/BIM or related digital design disciplines
Familiarity with BIM Level 2/3 standards and large-scale infrastructure projects
Experience within the water or wastewater sector
Awareness of sustainable design and energy-efficient solutions
