Overview
Our client is seeking a senior VAT and indirect tax specialist to lead their global compliance and reporting agenda. The role will cover the full compliance cycle, oversee accounting processes, and ensure indirect tax requirements are consistently met across multiple regions worldwide.
As part of the leadership team within the Global Indirect Tax function, this individual will work closely with the Head of Indirect Tax, partner with senior stakeholders across Finance and the wider business, and manage a team of experienced professionals. This is a high-profile opportunity offering both operational leadership and strategic influence.
What You’ll Do
* Direct and oversee the delivery of indirect tax filings globally, ensuring accurate and timely VAT, GST, DST and related submissions.
* Manage and review complex VAT return processes, recovery rate methodologies, annual adjustments, and refund claims.
* Lead the indirect tax accounting framework, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal postings, management reporting, and external auditor interactions.
* Monitor and forecast irrecoverable VAT, providing clear analysis and reporting for leadership.
* Supervise, mentor and develop a team of four tax professionals.
* Act as a senior contact on indirect tax matters, collaborating with the advisory team and wider business.
* Keep pace with global legislative and regulatory developments, embedding new requirements into processes.
* Deliver indirect tax training and knowledge-sharing across Finance and operational teams.
* Drive process improvement and data quality initiatives, including technology-led solutions.
* Oversee indirect tax aspects of audits, authority requests, restructurings, market entry, new products, and M&A activity.
* Maintain governance and policy documentation to ensure robust and practical tax frameworks.
What You Bring
* Minimum 8 years’ experience in VAT/indirect tax, including leadership of compliance and reporting.
* Experience gained in financial services, a large multinational, or a senior role within Big 4/Top 10 firms.
* Strong technical VAT knowledge, with exposure to multi-jurisdiction compliance desirable.
* Professional qualification (CTA, ACA, CA or equivalent).
* Demonstrated ability to manage teams, lead process improvements, and deliver change.
* Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
* Clear communicator, with the ability to collaborate across functions and with external advisors.
* Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel; knowledge of Oracle or other tax technology tools advantageous.
