ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS Qualifications: Hold a professional qualification in Youth work as recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC). with A minimum of 1 year full-time experience gained within the last 5 years of working with young people in youth work settings. Or Hold a professional qualification ineducation, community development, policy, law, social work or social sciences. with A minimum of 2 years full-time experience or 4 years part-time experience gained working directly with young people Experience Experience of working with young people in a group work and one-to-one setting. Experience of recruitment and retention of young people on youth work programmes. Hold a drivers licence or working toward having full access to a form of transport. Skills & Attributes: An ability to act on own initiative, to prioritise and manage own workload. Skills in the use of I.T software applications, including word processing and databases. Ability to inspire and motivate young people and those working with them. Well-developed communication skills Ability to work effectively under pressure. DESIRABLE ELEMENTS: Experience and qualifications: Understanding of young peoples rights Knowledge of safeguarding and best practice in creating safe, inclusive spaces for young people Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and how these can be applied in youth work practice Knowledge of relevant policy/ legislation that impacts on young peoples lives. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT Amplify is a regional youth work project operating in disadvantaged and polarised communities across 11 Northern Ireland Council areas (60% targeted) and the 6 border counties of Ireland (40%). Amplify will engage young people who are disadvantaged, excluded or marginalised and who are aged 14-24yrs across defined regions and communities in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. This job description/project is specifically located across Greater Belfast (Ardoyne, West Belfast, New Lodge and Tigers Bay, City Centre), Antrim/Newtownabbey (Rathcoole, New Mossley, Glengormley), North Down/Ards (Ballygowan, Newtownards, Bangor), Ballymena, Broughshane, Carrickfergus, and Larne. Amplify will maximise the reach to young people who have fallen on hard times and who experience volatile and chaotic lives and where their vulnerability is heightened. Young people who are at risk of anti-social influences, unemployment and who have languishing mental health will be prioritised. Through Amplify young people aged 14-24 years will engage in meaningful, purposeful and sustained contact to reduce isolation and segregation and to build positive and effective relationships through socialising, learning and playing sport together. Amplify will provide meaningful cross-community and cross-border programmes, 3-4 contact days per week over a 69 month period, embedding the core elements of: Personal development Good relations Citizenship Employability skills Positive progression Job Responsibilities The youth worker will: Identify and assess the needs of individual participants to ensure a menu of options - appropriate training, support measures and work placement /volunteering opportunities is tailored to meet their needs. Ensure young people are co designers of programme activities and learning outcomes. Draw on existing partnerships and develop new networks to enhance recruitment and programme development. Engage with key stakeholders to support young people (integrated school, probation, social services, community leaders, Jobs and benefits etc) Work with each participant to develop a personal action plan and to monitor and record progress toward achievement of personal goals. Plan appropriate programmes incorporating personal development, good relations, citizenship, youth employability and positive progression. Ensure cross-community elements of the programme and participation of young people. Deliver a suite of accredited training up to and including Level 1/2 qualifications (QCF) as required. Undertake the assessment of young peoples portfolios for accreditation through awarding bodies (OCNNI etc). Use the Youth Achievement Awards as the quality framework to recognise and measure the achievements and outcomes for all participants. Liaise with the Quality Assurance coordinator within the Training Team at YouthAction to ensure delivery and assessment of programmes is in line with awarding body requirements. Organise one to one mentoring and activities to enhance personal learning and personal capabilities of young people. Organise residentials, cross community and cross border contact and activities for young people on a regular basis. Liaise with young people about their employment opportunities and nurture their confidence and skills in gaining employment experiences. Provide post programme support to all participants (up to 6 months) to support them to stay on track, have positive progression to monitor their progress. Undertake Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult training when requested and implement in programmes. MONITORING AND EVALUATION The youth worker will: Develop personal action plans defining the learning outcomes/journey set by the young person. Record, monitor and update on a monthly basis all participant data (details, attendance records, one-to-one contact, achievements, progression, etc) to meet the data requirements of the funders and the organisation. Provide monthly progress reports against targets set to line manager and project manager. Document and present examples of models of best impact practice including benefits, outcomes and outputs from the project. Attend and actively contribute to quarterly self-evaluation project partner meetings as part of our quality improvement process. Link with and contribute to other initiatives within the Amplify project as required. FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION Report on the programme activities of Amplify quarterly on the JEMS system. Maintain administrative systems required to support the work of the project (raising cheque requisitions, purchase orders, plan ahead with administrative requirements). Robustly manage and maintain participant details/expense records for monitoring and auditing purposes, following YouthActions procedures. Work within agreed budgets, as laid down by the Northern Ireland Youth Forum Senior Youth Work Manager Comply with Northern Ireland Youth Forums financial procedures at all times. GENERAL Complete any other duties as directed by the Senior Youth Work Manager / Youth Work Manager at Northern Ireland Youth Forum. Develop an understanding of the ethos, aims and objectives of the volunteering policy, strategy and plan of Northern Ireland Youth Forum. Complete any necessary reports, evaluations and accreditation documentation as required/providing regular progress reports. Reflect the ethos, policies and practice of Northern Ireland Youth Forum at all time (adhering to the youth workers charter) and demonstrate integrity, maturity and good judgement at all times. Comply with Northern Ireland Youth Forum& Youth Action NIs Protecting Children, young people and young adults policy & procedures, including good practice guidelines at all times (NB. There is a common safeguarding policy is applicable to all partners). Become familiar with and adhere to NIYF policies and procedures at all times CURRENT TERMS & CONDITIONS APPLY Salary: NJC Scale SO1 PT 23 (£33,366) Location: TBC as per PEACEPLUS delivery areas Hours: 35 hours per week Holidays: 30 days per annum plus appropriate statutory days Hours of Work: These will require you to be available for work not only in the evenings but also, on occasions, on Saturdays and Sundays. You will arrange your day-to-day working hours in conjunction with your Line Manager to suit the varying and often changing needs and requirements for the post. (Normal time in lieu arrangements will apply). Travel: Mileage costs will be paid for travel costs incurred while carrying out the duties of the post.
