Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust are one of eight centres in England providing Primary HPV Cervical Screening covering the whole of the North East and Yorkshire area. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Failsafe Administrator to support the North East and Yorkshire Cervical Screening Department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the Cervical Cytology Failsafe system for the population of in the North East and Yorkshire area ensuring that all women who are recommended for Colposcopy referral are notified to the GP or responsible person if Colposcopy Outcome received within a set period of time and to ensure that national and local guidelines are followed.
The postholder has a key role in identifying any cervical cancers and highlighting these to the Cervical Screening Provider Lead (CSPL).
Job responsibilities
Responsible for maintenance of the electronic Cervical Cytology patient register of cervical samples requiring further investigation in accordance with the national guidelines.This requires a detailed knowledge and understanding of the operation and management of the NHS cervical screening programme and requires the postholder to operate with a high degree of autonomy when advising primary care staff of failsafe requirements and use own initiative to updating failsafe records.
Liaise closely with Consultant Pathologists and Cervical Screening Provider Lead (CSPL) regarding Failsafe matters and specific queries.
Undertakes and facilitates audits of the laboratory failsafe system as required, presenting audit reports to the Hospital-Based Screening Co-ordinator as appropriate.
Use available data analytical skills to identify all cases outstanding and produce a report to the CSPL on an annual basis, with a follow-up report six months later.
Responsible for ensuring colposcopy follow up letters advise correct management of patients.
Advise screening staff regarding patient management following HPV testing.
Responsible for dealing with all telephone enquires from doctors, nurses, hospitals and clinics in relation to failsafe activities working within clear guidelines.
Responsible for updating/amending all patient files in a timely manner
Responsible for recording any follow up Histology on the register
Responsible for updating information obtained from the sample taker as part of the Failsafe process onto the data base.
Using the Cervical Screening Management System (CSMS) to trace current patient registration details in order to update patient follow-up records.
Responsible for dealing with regular enquiries from neighbouring NHS Trusts and screening support agencies, relaying results with staff and sending amended reports as necessary.
Qualifications
* GCSE Grades A-C to include Mathematics and English or equivalent
* NVQ Level 4 in Administration or equivalent
* Basic IT Skills
* Computer qualification (OCR or equivalent)
* RSA II typing or word processing or equivalent
Experience
* Knowledge of the cervical call/recall system
* Able to work without direct supervision
* Detailed knowledge of the cervical call/recall system Supervisory experience
Skills
* Excellent Organisational Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with Health Care Professionals both within and out with the Trust
