Design Engineer - Interfaces (HVDC) role at SSEN Transmission
Base Location: Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.
Salary: £50,100 – £64,100 + car/cash allowance + performance bonus.
Working Pattern: Full time, permanent, flexible first options available.
Overview
As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme, we are recruiting a Design Engineer for the HVDC Engineering Team. The role is key to major HVDC projects across the UK’s grid infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Manage engineering design interfaces across HVDC packages, ensuring collaboration across civil, AC, cable, and cable systems.
* Lead the Design Interface Registers, working with contractors to align inputs, resolve issues early and keep data accurate.
* Oversee design submittals using Autodesk Construction Cloud, ensuring high quality, traceability and on‑time delivery.
* Act as a liaison between SSEN teams and external partners, providing clear interface updates and risk management.
* Champion a safety culture and support compliance with CDM regulations and SSEN engineering standards.
* Support interface management awareness, helping colleagues identify and manage design and quality risks.
Qualifications
* A degree or equivalent in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering; chartered status or working toward it is desirable.
* 5–7 years of project engineering or design coordination experience on complex multidisciplinary projects.
* Proven ability to manage interfaces between teams, contractors and disciplines, with early risk identification and mitigation.
* Experience supporting or leading multi‑disciplinary design coordination, understanding design, construction and programme interdependencies.
* Strong communication skills, translating technical issues into clear language for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Familiarity with digital collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar tools for design submissions and interface registers.
