About Autism Plus
Autism Plus are a leading Yorkshire Charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs. In 1986 the Charity was created by a group of parents looking for the very best support for their children who were about to leave a specialist school. The belief set by our founding parents, to empower more people to live independent, fulfilling lives remains our focus today. We employ over 350 people across the north of England in care support services, employment support and social enterprise businesses.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Desirable: Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
The Team and Role Overview
As a member of the Specialist Employment Team, you will improve life opportunities for individuals with neurodiverse conditions, supporting them one-to-one towards their goals in education, training, voluntary work, or paid employment. You will work from our offices, and travel to meet individuals in accessible, community locations, as well as providing some support virtually to individuals across the UK.
Role involves developing Individual Action Plans, identifying barriers, assisting with overcoming barriers, and using knowledge of local resources and networks to provide appropriate support. You will deliver a range of interventions to support progression in the following areas:
* Social skills / relationships
* Using community resources and facilities
* Self-organisation, motivation, and coping abilities
* Employability skills and preparation towards voluntary work and/or paid employment
* Increasing confidence and communication skills with the aim of supporting progression
* Engagement in education and/or job search activities
This would be achieved through person-centred support, practical assistance, teaching, advice, role modelling, encouragement, and positive feedback. You will be involved in facilitating job clubs, group activities, linking with education, as well as other objectives depending on individual requirements.
What we are looking for
* Experience in supporting people with additional needs e.g., autism, mental health, and Learning Disabilities, ideally in a similar role
* Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and resilient
* Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in communicating outcomes
* Skilled in working with people at all levels, including jobseekers, professionals, and parents/carers
* Ability to support individuals in the workplace as a job coach where necessary, provide advocacy, and work effectively with employers
