Overseas and Private Patients Manager
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working. Postholder based at Milton Keynes University Hospital.
Reporting into the Head of Income and Contracting, the Overseas & Private Patients Manager will manage, recover and report Private Patient and Overseas patient income into the Trust to support optimal understanding of income sources.

Responsibilities
* Lead the Trust's Overseas Visitors and Private Patients function, managing patients and invoicing arrangements and ensuring full compliance with legislation, NHS guidance, and Trust policies.
* Provide expert advice on Overseas Visitor Charging Regulations and Private Patient procedures; handle patient cases, confirming overseas status.
* Support the Head of Income and Contracting and other stakeholders on all aspects of Trust Overseas and Private Patient income, demonstrating accounting and business knowledge, analytic support, and clear presentation of financial and business information to clinical and non‑clinical colleagues.
* Constructively challenge all aspects of income reporting to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
* Ensure all overseas visitor and private patient invoices are raised accurately and promptly.
* Liaise with insurers, self‑paying patients and relevant stakeholders to secure guarantees of payment and minimise debt.
* Maintain expert knowledge of legislation, NHS guidance and Trust policies relating to overseas visitors and private patients.
* Monitor developments in migrant and charging regulations and advise the Trust on implementation and compliance requirements.
* Develop effective working relationships with clinicians, ward managers, service leads, finance teams and administrative staff to support the identification and management of overseas and private patients.
* Liaise with Home Office, UK Border Force, NHS England, Department for Work and Pensions, insurance companies, embassies and high commissions, GP practices and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).
* Support patients, relatives, charities and care coordinators by providing advice regarding treatment eligibility, charging status and payment arrangements.
* Coordinate Home Office Voluntary Service Returns in partnership with Lead Nurses to support safe patient repatriation where appropriate.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the terms & conditions and legislation relating to private patients, overseas visitors and health insurance schemes.
Experience
* Previous NHS experience working with overseas and private patients.
Skills
* Proficient use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, to accurately and promptly enter data into financial and non‑financial applications.
* Ability to work to tight timescales and under pressure.
* Good communication skills and ability to discuss complex and sensitive issues with patients, senior clinicians, nurses and outside agencies, ensuring patients are advised of the charges applicable within strict timescales.
* Plan and ensure that all policies and procedures are adopted and updated accordingly.
* Identify problems and offer suitable options for a satisfactory conclusion.
* Ability to process and handle payments in cash and electronically.
* Understanding of medical terminology is an advantage.
