Job description
DESNZ Efficiency, Corporate & Reporting function are looking for an outstanding finance professional with the required experience, skills and personal qualities to lead the Financial Accounting & Reporting Team to deliver the Department�s Core and Group Annual Report and Accounts, maintain the integrity of the Department�s ledger and provide accounting expertise to support the Department and the Department�s Partner Organisations.

The successful post holder will be able to deliver at pace, whilst working together with Finance Business Partners, UK SBS, the National Audit Office and other key members of the Department, acting as the face of Financial Accounting & Reporting. They will make effective decisions in providing sound advice on the application of International Accounting Standards (as interpreted by HM Treasury), to ensure the Core and Group financial records are free from errors and the annual accounts are laid pre-parliamentary recess.

Person specification
- Oversee production of the core Department Resource Accounts, including the Statement of Parliamentary Supply and completion of the Whole of Government Accounts;
- Oversee Partner Organisations financial and non-financial submissions, collected through the consolidation data collection tool at interim and year end;
- Engage effectively with the wider finance team, the Core Department and external Partner Organisations within the group;
- Ensure all technical aspects of the accounts production process are consistent with HM Treasury guidance and specifically the requirements of the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM);
- Provide technical accounting advice under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and guidance to a variety of partners around the Department;
- Where appropriate, collaborate closely with HM Treasury colleagues on technical issues and cross government accountancy issues;
- Lead in Boundary and classification advice;
- Oversee preparation of accounts and financial statements for DESNZ minor bodies;
- Lead engagement with the external auditors, the National Audit Office (NAO), to ensure the audit process runs efficiently.
Skills and experience:
You will be a result driven, collaborative team leader, with good attention to detail and the ability to use your communication skills to build good working relationships at all levels across the DESNZ family. You will be passionate about great public services and delivering on the DESNZ objectives.

Job Related Professional Skills:
Essential criteria
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIPFA or CIMA)
- Significant experience of International Financial reporting standard
- Strong technical accounting skills

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
