Medical Secretary / Patient Care Co-ordinator - Band 4
We are pleased to recruit a full-time Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our Medical Oncology Service on an 18-month fixed-term contract.
This newly created role is designed to provide high-quality administrative support to the Geriatric Oncology service and the Breast Oral Chemotherapy pathways, working closely with our Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists and wider clinical teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, proactive individual looking to develop their knowledge and experience within Oncology and the wider NHS. You will be joining a vibrant, supportive department within one of the largest and most respected cancer centres in the UK.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide comprehensive, efficient secretarial and administrative support to our Oncology consultants, breast nurses, and wider multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the service, supporting clinic administration, and helping us meet clinic letter turnaround targets.
This position requires excellent communication skills, confidence, and professionalism, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing deadlines. Strong typing skills, competency in Outlook, and good written and spoken English are essential.
You will be part of a close-knit and highly supportive administrative and nursing team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care within our medical oncology services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Barts Health NHS Trust is the second largest provider of cancer care in London and has an international reputation for delivering outstanding care. Cancer and palliative care services are provided across all Barts Health sites and include:
• 85 acute inpatient beds at St Bartholomew’s Hospital
• 11 palliative care beds in the Margaret Centre at Whipps Cross
• A state-of-the-art radiotherapy department with 5 linear accelerators and a CyberKnife
• A bone marrow transplant unit carrying out around 140 transplants each year
• Four chemotherapy day units delivering high-volume treatment

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. GCSE, A level or equivalent standard of education (especially Maths and English)
2. ECDL or equivalent experience e.g. advance knowledge of a range of IT packages such as word, excel and outlook

5. Minimum of 3 years administration/ medical secretarial/ pathway experience or equivalent non NHS

13. Typing skills of 50 wpm or RSA 2/3 or equivalent

17. Competence with a range of IT packages, e.g. Microsoft and CRS
18. Ability to produce correspondence & reports to a high calibre
19. Ability to communicate professionally at all levels and experience of dealing with patient anxiety in a reassuring manner
20. Acts in a way that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures and promotes the Trust Health and Safety policies
21. Experience of assisting in maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment for self and others
