Junior Clinical Fellow ST1/2 - General Internal Medicine and Specialty Closing date: 22 May 2026.
Due to extensive growth within our faculty, we are recruiting a Trust Grade Junior Clinical Fellow to work in the Medicine directorate at Basildon University Hospital. Successful candidates will undertake a 12‑month rotational programme comprising two 6‑month rotations in general medicine and specialty medicine such as Endocrine, Stroke, Respiratory, Palliative and elderly care. This offers an opportunity to gain experience in both acute and post‑acute clinical settings while working within a specialist service.
The post holder will be expected to manage the acute medical take, taking responsibility for the initial clerking, assessment, diagnosis and management of all patients admitted, and to provide continued care for those requiring a longer hospital stay.
Main duties of the job
Initial clerking in the Acute Take, assessment, diagnosis and management of all patients admitted.
Ward rounds with relevant consultants and management of all patients on the wards and any outlying wards.
Referral of patients to other specialities.
Discharge of patients after discussion with senior team members.
Experience in the outpatient setting under senior supervision.
Supervision and education of medical students (UCL and ARU) and junior doctors using ward‑based and classroom sessions.
Contribution to teaching of undergraduate medical students and development of teaching skills.
Commitment to the out‑of‑hour shift rota for General Medicine (approximately 9 shifts per 11 weeks).
Job responsibilities
Provide cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
Develop the service with colleagues and division management.
Work flexibly to achieve hospital‑agreed activity for inpatient and outpatient services.
Ensure standards are developed through clinical audit, evidence‑based research and appraisal.
Ensure all emergency patients are reviewed by a Consultant within 14 hours of admission.
Ensure all inpatients are reviewed every 24 hours by a senior doctor.
Participate in audit, clinical governance processes and continuing professional development; contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols.

£52,656 to £65,048 a year per annum (pro rata for part‑time).
