Purpose:
The role at Technician is to be responsible for performing a range of routine activities to support effective completion of projects and meet the customer’s contractual agreements. Perform lab admin and housekeeping activities, basic routine analysis and work in accordance with the quality standards within the Speciality Pharmaceutical laboratory. The Speciality Pharmaceutical laboratory focus on chromatography, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis techniques.
The position will be primarily based at the RSSL sites on the Reading university campus, although may require attendance at any of the RSSL sites or to support work in other laboratories.
Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Technical
1. Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results.
2. Perform a range of basic routine analysis using techniques such as chromatography, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis under supervision of a senior member of staff.
3. Operate basic lab equipment as directed. Be competent in the use of generic and specific software packages required for the role: Laboratory’s LIMS system, Q-Pulse, etc Provide training in routine activities.
4. Perform Lab admin and housekeeping duties as directed.
5. Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.

6. Work as part of an efficient analytical team

7. Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.
8. Complete assigned quality actions in a timely manner.
9. Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
10. Understand and work to the requirements of GMP and UKAS.
11. Ensure training records are accurate.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements:
12. Educated to A / HNC level or Bachelors in a relevant scientific discipline
13. Accountable, honest, hardworking and able to work efficiently in a team
14. Flexible and adaptable to meet customer/business requirements
15. Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to follow
16. written instructions
17. Good written and verbal communication skills
18. Self motivated, enthusiastic and quick to learn
19. Well organized and capable of working on multiple activities concurrently
20. Computer literate in standard MS office applications
21. Scientific understanding of basic lab equipment (preferred)
22. English fluency (written and spoken)
