An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy but friendly Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit at Cheltenham General Hospital. As part of the 3 Counties Cancer Network (3 CCN), our aseptic services unit prepares chemotherapy for patients from Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy assistant to join our growing production team at a very exciting time as we move into a brand new, purpose‑built aseptic unit.
Progression opportunities to Band 3 may be offered upon completion of competencies and training.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the provision of a safe and efficient aseptic production service, whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, good practice and quality standards.
The post holder will support all aspects of the pharmacy aseptic services unit, for example, cleaning, handling, receipting, dispensing, aseptic preparation, storage and disposal.
The post holder will be responsible for providing support to the pharmacists and other technical staff within the department, assisting in the provision of a high‑quality service to patients, staff and the wider Trust.
The post holder will demonstrate the Trust values and personal attributes to ensure this service is efficient and can be held accountable for responsibilities outlined.
The post holder will adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines and Trust procedures and policies.

Job responsibilities
* Accurately follow the departments standard operating procedures and comply with Good Manufacturing Practice.
* Receive chemotherapy prescriptions, generate worksheets and labels, assemble raw materials for all aseptically prepared products.
* Support technicians and compounding pharmacy assistants to compound cytotoxic intravenous infusions and syringes, using good aseptic technique.
* Perform volume and reconstitution checks.
* View, label and package completed products.
* Perform regular cleaning within the unit.
* Complete in‑house competency training.
* Participate in regular stock checks and audits.
* Collect and manage stock.
* To include weekend working when/if required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Candidates will need to have achieved a grade 4 or equivalent in GCSE Maths and English.
* Level 2 in pharmacy aseptic services or equivalent (SMPO).
Knowledge / Skills
* Attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
* Be aware of the importance of our service to patients.
* Good communication skills, both written and oral. Communicate well with all grades of staff.
* Ability to work within a team and under supervision.
* Knowledge of computers and good keyboard skills.
* Able to prioritise work.
* Be flexible and reliable.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Understanding of GMP.
* Aseptic experience or experience of cleanroom environment.
