Role Overview
We are delighted to offer a new full‑time specialty registrar position in upper gastrointestinal surgery at the Royal United Hospital Bath. This is a fixed‑term one‑year post commencing on 5th August 2026, providing an excellent opportunity to gain high‑quality surgical experience within a supportive, well‑structured clinical environment.
The post offers the opportunity to attain competencies and improve portfolios prior to Core Surgical Training applications. It supports a busy department delivering upper GI, colorectal and emergency surgical activity.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide care for in‑patients and the admission and primary care of emergency cases, including performing surgical procedures.
* Run subspecialty clinics and assist in performing elective surgery according to learning objectives and acquired competencies.
* Participate in a structured training programme, regular audit and teaching sessions.
* On‑call duties during working hours covering the General Surgery acute take.
* 1:12 on‑call on the registrar rota.
Department Context
The department has 85 general surgery beds and is led by fourteen consultants and two associate specialists. The clinical team also includes four staff grades, ten specialist registrars/specialty trainees and several junior trainees.
