Consultant Paediatric Dermatologist

This appointment is for a Consultant Paediatric Dermatologiston a substantive contract. You will be joining a team of 8 other consultants atan exciting time of expansion of our departmental workforce. Nominal Base to be arranged.

The Dermatology service is a trust-wide service that hasmedical and surgical components. The secondary care service delivers a range ofConsultant and nurse-led services from University Hospital of North Durham,Darlington Memorial Hospital, Bishop Auckland General Hospital and SunderlandRoyal Hospital. General Dermatology and Specialist Nurse Clinics are run fromall sites while the specialist clinics and nurse-run procedure clinics are runfrom UHND only. Urgent Suspected Cancer clinics are based at UHND, withConsultant triaged triaged cases seen by Dermatology and Platic Surgery in oneclinical setting with photographers and operators on standby from bothspecialities to allow seamless daily surgery.

Further, GPSI and specialist nurse clinics andsurgery are offered from a range of community locations across the localitiesby the Community aspect of the service.


Main duties of the job

As a Senior Clinican within the organization, it is expectedthat you will deliver and champion high quality and safety as a clinical leaderwithin Dermatology.

The clinical commitment of the post is to providedermatological services predominantly in Durham but also from other sites aspart of the hub and spoke model alongside Consultant colleagues and supportedby our junior staff.

The post-holder will be expected to provide a comprehensive dermatologyclinical service, but with an emphasis on paediatric dermatology. This includesoutpatient consultations, and specialist activities as agreed with othermembers of the department. The consultant has a continuing responsibility forthe care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of thedepartment.

Clinic bookings rules will be in line withBritish Association of Dermatologists guidelines. Treatment of patients may bearranged in the inpatient or outpatient unit, and the consultant will beresponsible for supervising this treatment.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

Provide general and paediatric dermatology servicesincluding acute assessment of patients.

Supportand contribute directly to a culture of continuous service improvement

Attend andcontribute to the service business and governance meeting to support strategicclinically led direction and robust clinical governance within the service

Supportcolleagues in adult dermatology provision where appropriate with expertknowledge in paediatric provision

Undertakeskin surgery in appropriate paediatric population

Departmentalteaching - The postholder and their fellow consultants will be collectivelyresponsible for the development and supervision of the more junior workforce

CPD Thepostholder will be responsible for ensuring they meet national requirementssurrounding contemporary practice

MDT Thepost holder will be responsible for working with the wider MDT in clinicalmatters to optimize patient outcomes of care

Audit andgovernance activities - The postholder will participate in clinical governancearrangements in line with national and local guidelines.

Supportthe effective safeguarding of all patients, this post in particualrl will havea key role in safeguarding children and young people

PatientExperience The post holder will be expected to engage and support appropriateresolutions to Patient Experience Matters in support of the respective leads ofthe service.

Collaboratewith the operational managers and clinical lead to support the trust attainmentof access standards for pathways in line with clinical urgency

Work withthe clinical lead and operational leads of the service to grow and maintainhigh standards of clinical service: Quality, Safety and Access

The postholder and their fellow consultants will be expected to deputise for each otherin the absence of colleagues in instances of Annual leave, study leave and sicknessas far as is practicable and ensure continuous patient care

Whereapplicable and appropriate, the post holder will be expected to represent theDermatology service in internal and external trust forums.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience in Medical Dermatology and paediatric dermatology
* Experience of medical teaching
* Evidence of involvement in paediatric safeguarding processes
* Evidence of leadership roles in paediatric dermatology
* Experience of paediatric dermatology and dermatology surgery
* Evidence of participation in clinical research


Special Requirements

* Flexible team worker
* Commitment to CME and CPD
* Willingness to undertake additional professional duties


Statutory Registration

* Full and specialist registration with GMC (and Licence to Practice).
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration or be within 6 months of attaining CCT/CESR in Dermatology at time of interview.


Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP
* MD, PhD or other formal research qualifications


Special Skills & Knowledge

* Clinical Skills able to offer expert clinical opinion on range of Paediatric Dermatology problems within the Dermatology service
* Able to demonstrate full competence in the management of common and rare skin disorders, including skin cancer, hair disorders, acne, psoriasis, eczema, contact dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa in adults and children
* Able to demonstrate evidence of NHS management skills i.e. ability to organise own work. Ability to delegate appropriately to a range of multi-disciplinary colleagues including Trust middle grades, trainee registrars, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Pharmacy Practitioners
* Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising trainees
* Experience and understanding of audit and conducting clinical audit
* Evidence of expertise in teledermatology provision; particularly in assessment of paediatric cases
