Job Summary

Face‑to‑face interviews planned at Southmead Hospital on Wednesday 4th March.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to progress the health inequality agenda within the Bristol NHS Group, developing plans that address inequality and create sustainable change for patients. The Equitable Access Coordinator for Cancer is a new post with the specific purpose to support those patients on a cancer pathway who may be more likely to experience blocks to how they access or experience cancer care.

The role requires someone with exceptional organisational and data management skills who can also demonstrate great communication and interpersonal skills. A caring and sensitive attitude is essential as you will be communicating with patients, their families and carers.

It is likely that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become a Macmillan Professional, which provides access to a £1,000 personal development grant for training opportunities relevant to the role, along with other benefits.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with clinicians, managers and booking staff to identify and resolve delays in the pathway. They will be responsible for identifying patients at risk of not attending appointments, utilising demographic data that has been shown to give insight into the social determinants of health. Where necessary, the post holder will proactively reach out to offer support to individual patients. This may involve identifying barriers to access and working with patients, families and communities to overcome these, enabling people to get the care they need.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop and implement an improvement plan to ensure equitable access to cancer services sustainably now and in the future. This will involve working closely with different stakeholders across cancer pathways, from both primary and secondary care. The post holder will have the opportunity to engage with patients and communities to understand barriers and needs relating to supporting timely attendance, co‑creating solutions.
