Responsibilities
* Provide supervision and staff support for all existing phlebotomy staff and those in training, ensuring high standards and adherence to correct procedures.
* Deputise for the phlebotomy manager when required and act as the named contact for operational issues.
* Support the phlebotomy manager with rotas, day‑to‑day running of the service and contingency plans.
* Attend meetings and provide departmental reports in the absence of the phlebotomy manager.
* Set and maintain high standards of blood collection.
* Ensure the patient is comfortable and relaxed, and confirm their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
* Record collection of blood samples electronically.
* Report incidents via the Datix system and investigate any issues raised.
* Perform venepuncture, cannulation, blood cultures and venesection, and train others and assess competency in these techniques.
* Perform stock rotation and stock management.
Job overview
Working Part time: 30 hours per week, Monday to Sunday between 7.30am and 18:00pm.
The role involves working across three main locations: the Countess of Chester Hospital (inpatient wards, outpatient services, and GP bloods), the 1829 Building for GP bloods, and off‑site locations including a GP phlebotomy hub in Ellesmere Port and ward/outpatient services at Ellesmere Port Hospital.
Phlebotomy duties cover weekend rotations, requiring flexibility of the successful candidate.
