We are an independent primary school for children aged 4‑11 years old, located in Shenley, Hertfordshire. Catering for 450 students and teachers daily. We offer a core feeding of morning and afternoon snacks and lunch with a small hospitality offering. This is a term‑time plus contract working 45 weeks a year and operates Monday to Friday. Job Summary
* Lead the catering team with the day‑to‑day production & service of the member and staff dining facilities across the site, liaising with the centre on the delivery of internal or external hospitality events.
* Deliver both the client‑agreed budget and the company annual budget.
* Develop and implement the members and staff dining and hospitality facilities, ensuring quality of food, level of customer service, presentation of dining and service areas are maintained to agreed standards.
* Prepare, comment, and report upon monthly and annual Profit & Loss Operating Statements for Thomas Franks.
* Develop each area of the catering offer in line with client expectations, budgetary constraints and agreed development plans.
* Responsible for day‑to‑day operations of all catering facilities throughout the year in line with business requirements.
* Assist in change processes in the departments, setting standards and motivating staff to deliver them.
* Communicate with members and clients via customer interaction and relevant forums, ensuring requirements are met at all times.
* Deliver Food Services operations as directed by the Operations Manager to include members/staff dining and any internal/external hospitality.
* Create and nurture an environment that emphasises motivation, empowerment, teamwork and a passion for service.
* Provide excellent food and customer service, responding quickly and proactively to customer needs.
* Develop the food offer in line with current market trends and company values.
* Ensure age‑appropriate food is available in all locations, adhering to special dietary requirements.
* Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with all departments.
* Ensure compliance with all Thomas Franks Food & Beverage policies, standards and procedures through training, supervision, follow‑up and hands‑on management.
* Maintain and develop service standards in dining areas, including cleanliness and presentation.
* Have full knowledge of client safeguarding, health & safety, fire and accident procedures.
* Carry out effective induction, review and development plans for staff, maintaining records.
* Support rehabilitation activities as required by the centre.
* Undertake any reasonable duties required for the effective operation and development of commercial areas.
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience delivering excellent food standards.
* Hands‑on Catering Manager role leading team in food production and service.
* Proven ability to communicate with clients and deliver agreed objectives and goals.
* Competent computer skills, knowledge of software, browsers.
* High level of communication (reading, writing, oral, listening).
* Customer and personal service skills, proven track record of customer service achievements.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Analytical/critical thinking, organisational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Proven ability to manage a team and achieve high performance through motivation.
* Strong customer service ethos.
* Flexibility to work to business needs.
Knowledge / Competencies
* Good understanding and use of verbal English.
* Good standard of written English and reading skills.
* Previous experience in a customer and/or food preparation environment.
* Recognised cooking qualification such as City & Guild 706/1 & 2 or equivalent.
* Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification.
