We’re looking for a proactive and capable Maintenance Officer to join our team at Field Studies Council Margam Discovery Centre.
1. Permanent full-time contract
2. Average 37.5 hours per week - Weekly hours may vary, with more during busy periods and fewer in quieter weeks.
3. Starting salary is £26,302 per annum + excellent benefits including life assurance 5 x your salary and health and wellbeing support.

What you’ll be doing
5. Ensuring all internal and external repairs to fabric and fittings are completed in a timely manner, using outside contractors if necessary
6. Maintaining all internal systems such as heating and hot water, alarms, sewage system, electronic door locks, portable electrical equipment and other essential equipment
7. Assisting with maintenance planning, including supporting the Maintenance Action Plan
8. Undertaking routine inspection & monitoring work e.g. fire alarm & fire safety equipment checks
9. Arranging MOTs, servicing and repairs to the learning location vehicles
10. Supporting grounds maintenance, waste management, and keeping the site clean and welcoming
11. Setting up rooms and assisting other teams with practical tasks when needed
12. This role also forms part of our duty/on‑call rota to support customers and respond to emergencies and will involve staying on site overnight on some occasions

Margam Discovery Centre is set within the 850‑acre Margam Park estate. It offers a peaceful mix of woodland, open grassland and historic scenery, all just minutes from the M4. It’s the kind of place where the day starts with wide views and a real sense of calm.
The centre is an award‑winning, low‑carbon building designed by The Welsh School of Architects. Modern, bright and welcoming, it accommodates up to 140 guests and sits at the heart of a landscape made for exploring.
It’s a scenic and uplifting place to work, surrounded by fresh air, natural beauty and the chance to help visitors enjoy a memorable stay.
Who we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone with experience in both interior and exterior maintenance work who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and understands the Health & Safety responsibilities that come with this role.

19. A full driving licence is essential, as you will be asked to drive our vehicles. To do so, you must be aged 21 years or over, have been driving for at least two years, and undertake an internal assessment on commencement in the role.
