About the Role
SEARCH are seeking an experienced Groundworks Civil Project Manager to oversee enabling and civil works on a major substation development project in Manchester. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing all groundworks and associated civil engineering activities through delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing infrastructure delivery team working on a significant UK energy project.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day delivery of groundworks and civil engineering packages on site
* Coordinate subcontractors, labour, plant, and material requirements
* Ensure works are delivered in line with programme milestones and commercial objectives
* Oversee site health & safety compliance and enforce safe systems of work
* Liaise with design teams, consultants, utilities, and stakeholders
* Chair and attend progress meetings, reporting on programme, risks, and productivity
* Monitor quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with specifications
* Review RAMS, permits, and construction methodologies
* Identify and mitigate project risks and delays
* Support commercial teams with valuations, variations, and cost control
* Maintain accurate project records and reporting documentation
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering groundworks and civils packages within the power, utilities, infrastructure, or industrial sectors
* Strong knowledge of substation or energy infrastructure projects preferred
* Experience managing earthworks, drainage, ducting, reinforced concrete, foundations, and external works
* SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certification essential
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and fast-paced site activities
* Excellent understanding of HSEQ standards and CDM regulations
* Full UK passport & driving licence
Desirable
* Previous experience on National Grid or ICP projects
* Temporary works coordination experience
* Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
* NEC contract awareness
