This department sets the standards for the frontline revenue protection, back-office counter fraud and revenue recovery functions, and delivers key data insights as well as providing strategic influence across the business and wider rail industry, particularly focusing upon retail and journey related fraud. About the job? As an Assistant Fraud Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery the GWR Revenue Protection and Counter Fraud Strategy through the proactive prevention of fraud and the mitigation of system weakness. You will support Fraud Managers to deliver the professional conduct and management of both criminal and civil investigations relating to journey related fraud and will be involved in the day-to-day management of our Revenue Investigators and their investigations. You will also be delivering high quality industry leading investigations in line with the UK Rail Counter Fraud Strategy, aimed at ensuring that GWR and taxpayer investment is protected. Your main responsibilities will be: Deputising for Fraud Managers as required. Conducting investigations, preparing criminal prosecution and civil money claim litigation case files which meet the required standards of proof, acting as officer in the case representing Great Western Railway in court. Ensure that obligations under the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, and both the Criminal Procedure & Civil Procedure Rules 2020 as amended from time to time are met. Prioritising the recovery of lost revenue using a risk-based approach to all available options. Ensuring that the best interests of Great Western Railway are always the priority in your decisions. Implement company policies and procedures to manage staff issues in a fair and consistent manner. Ensuring your personal safety and that of others. Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to your role. In the event of normal duties not being available, you may be asked to assist staff stations, either in emergencies, special events or revenue protection exercises as directed. About you? You will be experienced in both the countering and the investigation fraud to the criminal and civil standards of proof. You will have demonstrable experience in the preparation of case papers that can secure safe and valid convictions and outcomes in both the criminal and civil court setting. You will be: able to identify and review evidence from multiple sources. able to present your findings and recommendations clearly and accurately to peers and managers. experienced in conducting investigatory interviews. able to ensure that personal information confidentiality is maintained under the Data Protection Act 2018. able to work independently, and with minimal supervision. able to build strong and productive working relationships. able to focus upon maintaining the reputation of the business in all that you do. What do I need? Qualification and/or significant experience in the investigation fraud. GCSE English and Maths Proven experience of interviewing in accordance with the Police & Criminal Evidence Act following the PEACE framework. Experience of the need to ensure that your actions are proportionate, legal, accountable, and necessary. Understanding of the different types of train tickets and the rail industry after sales environment (desirable but not essential). About the location? The main office will be located at Reading, and whilst you will be required to attend the office at least on day per week we are happy to allow hybrid working. We operate a hot desk booking system which will enable you to work from any GWR office location as well as from home. Working pattern? The role will be mainly Monday to Friday office hours; however, a degree of operational flexibility is required as you may occasionally need to work outside of these hours. The Reward?
