An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist team at the James Paget Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated senior nurse who will have the opportunity to shape the care and pathways for local arrhythmia patients. Service development will be a key part of the role and the successful applicant will be given support to set up and run specialist nurse services including DC cardioversion lists, syncope clinics and arrhythmia clinics. The role will involve working closely with the James Paget Cardiologists in addition to liaising directly with the tertiary Electrophysiology (EP) and devices services at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and this post will be considered as an integral part of these wider services. This role also supports the NNUH EP team at the arrhythmia clinics at the JPUH. The trust have funding to commence a local ILR (implantable loop recorder) service and this role will play a part in this service.
The successful applicant will be a senior nurse with extensive experience working within the field of cardiology. Qualifications in non-medical prescribing or history taking and examination would be desirable, but not essential. The successful applicant will be encouraged to study towards BHRS (British Heart Rhythm Society) accreditation and educational time and opportunities will be available to achieve this.
Main duties of the job
The Nurse Specialist will work closely with the Consultant Cardiologist / Electrophysiologists to develop a comprehensive support service for patients and relatives diagnosed with arrhythmias, requiring complex ablation and /or require complex cardiac device implant. The post holder is expected to apply highly specialised, clinical expertise to meet the particular needs of these patients and their families.

Job responsibilities
To workas part of a team to deliver expert nursing services within a specialist area and to manage a case load of patients/clients.
To ensure that patients and their families who have been diagnosed with an arrhythmia either in an acute setting or chronic condition are fully supported by providing clinical and educational support.
To establish and deliver patient support groups and/or methods of patient support (e.g. patient websites, patient forums).
To independently provide specialist nursing care for all arrhythmia patients including those requiring electrophysiology (EP) procedures, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), permanent
pacemakers (PPM), cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices and implantable loop recorders.
To review patients symptoms and medication regime. To initiate / titrate medication based on clinical assessment and need in line with Independent prescribing guidelines / scope of practice (if qualified and competent)
To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of patients in primary and secondary care.
To undertake department managerial tasks.
To establish and maintain audit data to measure the effectiveness of the service
