Performance Analyst

As a result of our expansion plans and our continued ongoing success we are seeking a Performance Analyst to be based at our Head Office in Plymouth. The Performance Analyst will leverage data-driven insights and advanced analytics to report on business sales, profit & margin. This role is critical in driving profitability through detailed margin analysis, cost control, and financial performance insights. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring margin trends, identifying improvement opportunities and providing actionable recommendations to support strategic business decisions.
About the Role:
1. Analyze department and product level margins across the business
2. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities impacting profitability and recommend actions for improvement
3. Conduct variance analysis comparing actuals vs forecasts, budgets and prior periods
4. Prepare and present regular margin performance reports to senior leadership
5. Support pricing and promotion strategy analysis to evaluate the impact on margin and profitability
6. Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process with a focus on margin performance
7. Support rolling reforecasts with up-to-date margin impact assumptions
8. Identify unprofitable SKUs and recommend rationalization or re-pricing strategies
9. Create ad hoc reports related to margin performance
10. Collaborate with the buying teams to support decisions that improve profitability
11. Collaborate with data teams to improve data quality, segmentation and granularity in margin reporting
Person Specification:
12. Degree or previous experience in an analytical / commercial position
13. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make actionable recommendations
14. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present data-driven insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
15. Ability to work effectively with various teams
16. Able to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
17. Proactive approach to problem-solving
18. Comfortable working with large sets of data
19. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn new data visualization and analysis tools such as Power BI & SQL
